This project is developed by me (Rodrigo Polo) and in the beginning was just an idea I got when I was struggling to make a function to convert from numerical to alphanumerical ids, I found one on the internet and works great for the project I was working on, then I tough “I can use this for a URL Shortener” so I decided to code it and in less than a day I have it done and published online.

PHPurl is a simple script that allows users to make a shorter url. This is great when you have a long url and you want to make it shorter for SMS or other things that have a limit on how many characters you can type (ex: Twitter). There are a few places online that do this like tinyURL, but I thought I might release this so anyone who has a very short domain can use it for their own or even start their own site.
YOURLS is a small set of PHP scripts that will allow you to run your own URL shortening service (a la TinyURL). You can make it private or public, you can pick custom keyword URLs, it comes with its own API. You will love it.
There’s a WordPress plugin available for YOURLS, making integration with your blog a snap: create short URLs and tweet them automagically as you publish blog posts.

On the user side there is basically only a text field and a submit button. The long URL goes into the text field and after clicking the submit button the short URL shows up. Script has an ajax features, site does not reload after url creation.
Short URL Script requires Apache webserver, PHP/4/5, a MySQL database on Windows, Unix or Linux operating system to function properly. You also need a software (WinZIP for example) to unpack the script files after downloading from our server. You should have a solid understanding of HTML and some experience with script installation.
